January 2018 - What's in the Box?
Are we too late to wish you a Happy New Year and send our positive thoughts your way?
Now that we're in the year of 2018 as a company and small business we'd like to begin by giving each of you a greater insight into what it is that we do and how we plan to leave an even bigger impact on the next 12 months, covering the vast subject of mental health. One of the ideas that we plan to put in place is, each month we'll be running polls on our twitter page so that followers and other users are able to select one of our box items from a short list selected by us. The outcome is that the most popular item, will feature in our next box, sounds simple?
With that declaration now out of the way, we can begin with this month's box contents...
Thinking about all of the events and daily achievements for the next 12 months or so ahead can be daunting. If you’re used to our problem-resolution analysis you’ll have already guessed that the diary/planner chosen is a great way to free your mind of all the smaller stresses that hold it back each day.
We find that diaries are not only useful for reminding you of your distant cousins birthday (not that we’ve ever forgotten) but help with planning for the everyday. Taking each day as it comes along, noting down one or two realistic targets for the day, whether this is a food shop or deciding to take a longer bath than usual, writing it in here and then ticking it off at the end of the day helps you to feel more fulfilled for your time spent doing the activity.
The festive season now behind us, but before spring comes along to brighten our days we still have those few months of cold and frosty beginnings to come. Many of us during this period start to feel the lack of confidence and begin to feel a little like our hands, dry, cracked and want to bundle up in a comfy cocoon. Here is the almost perfect solution, a pair of gloves!
Whilst not new and already worn by so many of us it’s important to take care of your hands. Just like our brains simple survival activities, we can take our hands for granted and forget that they help us to achieve everyday triumphs with little thought.
Self-care for your hands if you like! There’s nothing more satisfying than being warm amongst the bitter winter winds.
When January comes around, often we feel like all of the joyous events are so far from reach and any motivation we had to keep us going is slowly slipping away. That’s why this month we thought we’d surprise you all with a special gift, chosen by us to give you the fresh and motivational start to the new year that you need.
Living in an age where we monitor every number that enters our body and every single ounce of energy we give out it seems like we should have a greater grip on perfecting the ‘ideal’ lifestyle. Perhaps if we pace back and forth to reach our goal of 10,000 daily steps we’ll feel more content with completing this and can sit back with a pizza without any worries for the rest of the day - until tomorrow strikes!
Instead what if we did this blind and didn’t have a mobile phone vibrating in our pocket to tell us just how great we are.
The thinking behind this (slightly aged) pedometer is that it isn’t all fully connected to your devices, however, what it does do is quite accurately measure steps and lets you reach your own personal goals without feeling pressure from others. Step at your own pace, quite literally.

Judging from previous boxes it’s safe to say that we love a short reminder of our everyday battles and how we can conquer them, what better way than in sticker form.
This one comes from Tisetas a London based Etsy retailer who creates positive stationery, gifts and more! Beginning the day with short but uplifting quotes like this helps us to approach the 24 hours ahead with a confident and open mindset. Perhaps if we had more stickers and cards like this in the world those dark, early mornings wouldn’t seem so bad.
Something that will remain constant throughout our boxes is the dark spots within them, an uplifting thought, inspirational quote or a task for you to carry out. The details are all on the spot, keep it with you if you like to remind yourself that happiness and being mentally well are never too far away.
Often when it comes to making New Year’s Resolutions we can all struggle to think of something new and innovative that isn’t going to leave us wanting to give up after the first week. That’s why in this month's Dark Spot we’ve given you a good idea to approach 2018. The key things to take from this are to think small and think every day, staying away from the larger picture and avoiding setting yourself an unrealistic goal.
